After graduating from there he continued his studies at Al-Azhar in 1955 and received his Ph.D. from Cantab. He joined the National Library of Qatar and worked there as a librarian till 1968 when he was appointed on the teaching facility of Ummul Qura University, Makkah Mukarramah. In 1973 he joined the University of Riyadh (subsequently called King Saud University). He received the King Faisal Award for Islamic Studies in 1979. He also worked as a visiting Professor, University of Michigan and as King Faisal Professor at the Princeton University...
